If you are visiting Niagara Falls, NY, the Aquarium of Niagara is an excellent place to visit. With over 30 exhibits including the new Penguin Coast exhibit, it provides deep insight into marine life and animal care. The Aquarium is especially entertaining for young children.
It is accessible by the Niagara Falls State Park trolley or by one of the trails in the park.
It features over 200 aquatic animal species representing ecosystems ranging from the Great Lakes to coral reefs.
Visitors can enjoy daily penguin, shark and tidal pool feedings. You will find sea lions, Peruvian penguins, sturgeons, seahorses, seals, sharks, fish, and more. You can also see the Humboldt penguins, which are an endangered species. The Aquarium provides an educational experience as well for children.
It was opened as a privately owned corporation by a small group of chemists and scientists in 1965. An artificial seawater formula, Instant Ocean, was used for the aquarium. This formula is now used by most inland aquariums around the world. The Aquarium is a not-for-profit organization now.
