The Niagara Falls Museum will be holding an exhibition titled Echoes in the Ice – Finding Franklin’s Ship from January 22 to April 22, 2018.

The exhibition’s focus will be on past explorations to the Arctic. With the discovery of America in 1492, the attention of Europeans turned towards the exploration of the Arctic region. Over the next 4 centuries, there were many explorations into the Arctic, mainly by the British.

On display are artifacts, images, maps, audiovisual presentations and art documenting Arctic explorations past and present. The exhibition uncovers the mystery behind the ill-fated 1845 expedition by Sir John Franklin to find the Northwest Passage. The expedition’s 2 ships HMS Erebus and HMS Terror and the crew vanished without a trace.

The lost HMS Erebus and HMS Terror were only discovered recently, in 2014 and 2016 respectively. Learn how perilous Arctic exploration can be, read about the fascinating story of Sir Franklin’s doomed expedition and view various artifacts recovered from the ships.

This exhibition will continue till April 22, 2018 at Niagara Falls History Museum.
