The beautiful and mystical Niagara Falls has captured the imagination of visitors through the centuries. Once popular as a honeymoon destination, today it has become more of a family vacation destination.
Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls on the Niagara River – American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Horseshoe Falls. The former two are on the US side while Horseshoe Falls is in Canada.
The Niagara Gorge created by Niagara River stretches 11 km downstream to the foot of the escarpment at Queenston.
On the Canadian side, there is an attraction called Journey behind the Falls, which takes you through a tunnel behind the waterfall.
Journey behind the Falls – A Walk Behind Niagara Falls
To take a walk behind the Falls, you will need to buy tickets to Journey behind the Falls, an attraction at the Table Rock Complex in Niagara Falls, Canada.
Visitors descend via an elevator into the bedrock of Niagara Gorge. After exiting the elevator, visitors walk through a series of tunnels close to the base of the Horseshoe Falls. Water cascading down can be viewed through cave openings behind the waterfall.
The tunnels lead to two observation platforms in the Niagara Gorge, providing a vantage point to view the Falls on the right and the Niagara River below. Visitors get a full view of Horseshoe Falls.
Spray from the cascading water falls onto the lower observation deck, getting visitors wet. You need not worry as everyone is provided a raincoat at the start of this self-guided tour.
The lower observation deck remains closed in winter due to snowfall and ice.
