While driving from Toronto to Niagara Falls along the Niagara Parkway, I passed what looked like a miniaturized white building beside an indoor market. My curiosity spiked. I decided to turn around so that I could visit the market to get a drink and investigate this tiny building further.
I pulled a U-turn and to my surprise the miniaturized white building that I thought was a model turned out to be a fully functional chapel. I walked into the market to inquire about the building.
The market is called Walker’s Country Market; they sell fresh produce, baked goods, refreshments, and small sight-seeing souvenirs. The women who run the market are very polite and were more than happy to answer my questions regarding this miniature Chapel.
The Church is called The Living Water Wayside Chapel and it had previously hosted a number of weddings! There is a bell on the top of the Chapel, the building is approximately 4 metres by 1.8 metres (13 feet by 6 feet), inside there are four small pews and an area for the Pastor to hold the sermon. It can hold about 9 people, however due to its size the Chapel can get very hot!
I was told that tour buses will regularly stop at the Chapel to take photos and purchase snacks before proceeding to one of the local wineries in the area. I purchased a freshly squeezed Concord grape juice to quench my thirst while I was visiting the site.
Before I left I crossed the road and sat on a park bench beneath the trees and watched the rushing water of the Niagara River go by as I finished my refreshing beverage. It is a great place to take a moment out to reflect on the beauty of NIagara.
