One of the best things about the Niagara region is the thousands of acres of farms and orchards that produce some of the best fruit and vegetables in Ontario. It means locals and visitors can experience farm to table dining with food prepared from the freshest of ingredients.
The variety of fruit produced in the Niagara region is vast – strawberries, plums, peaches, apples, cherries, apricots, and more. You can enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables from May till at least October.
While most visitors just spend their time looking at Niagara Falls, visit a few attractions and perhaps a winery, some visitors like to explore the Niagara countryside.
The country roads are dotted by farms putting up signs to advertise their produce for sale. During harvest season, some of the farms let you pick your own fruit and vegetables.
Some of the farms that allow “pick your own” option are Parkway Orchards in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Bry-Anne Farms in Fenwick, Ridge Berry Farm in Ridgeville, Cherry Avenue Farms in Vineland, Mathias Farms in Ridgeville, DeVries Fruit Farm in Fenwick, and many more.
Visitors can pick a variety of fruit depending on the month and what is in season.
Cherry picking and peach picking is usually in early summer, strawberries are available mid-late June, plums and nectarines are picked in August and September, apples are picked in September, grapes and pumpkins are harvested in October.
