Niagara Falls on the US-Canada border is North America’s most famous waterfall. It is visited by nearly 14 million tourists each year.
It can be viewed from its namesake cities on either side of the border. On the US side, Niagara Falls is visible from Niagara Falls State Park and on the Canadian side it is visible from Niagara Parkway and other vantage points.
You will not get wet while viewing the spectacular waterfall from Niagara Parkway or Niagara Falls State Park. The misty spray from the Falls may get you slightly wet when you stand at the crest line of the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side.
The Hornblower Niagara Cruise and Journey behind the Falls are two attractions in Niagara Falls Canada where visitors get wet at Niagara Falls.
The Hornblower Niagara Cruise is a boat ride to see the Falls from the Niagara River. The boat sails past the American and Bridal Veil Falls and into the basin of the Horseshoe Falls. Here the boat stays stationary for some time. You are surrounded on three sides by the waterfall and all you can see is a massive volume of water tumbling falling from above.
The water falls at such speed it causes a spatter that drenches everyone on the boat. A very wet experience but an absolute must if you want to see Niagara Falls upclose. You will be provided a rain poncho that should keep you mostly dry. However, you might get wet from the knees down.
It is best if you wear flip-flops or other footwear that will dry off soon. You can avoid getting wet on the Hornblower Niagara Cruise by standing in the glassed off area on the lower deck. Feeling the cascading water fall on you is an exhilarating experience you will remember for the rest of your life!
Journey behind the Falls is another attraction at Table Rock Complex that lets visitors see the Horseshoe Falls from near its base. Visitors descend into the bedrock of the Niagara Gorge to a tunnel that runs behind the waterfall. There are portholes through which the waterfall can be seen from behind.
The tunnel leads to two observation decks close to the base of the Horseshoe Falls. Standing on the lower observation deck will get you wet from the waterfall’s spray.
Visitors to both the attractions get waterproof ponchos which do a fair job of protecting against the spray.
