Experience the beauty of nature through the magical colors of the over 2000 tropical butterflies gracing the Niagara Falls Butterfly Conservatory. Built on the grounds of the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens, the conservatory welcomes thousands of visitors every year, and is open all year round except on December 25. Visitors to the conservatory are taken round a paradise of vibrantly colored butterflies, lush vegetation, and breath-taking waterfalls.
The tour is self-guided and starts with a short video presentation about the conservatory; the presentation is also close captioned for those that are hearing impaired. The butterfly conservatory is fully accessible to all persons. It is the proud winner of the 2007 & 2008 AccessibleNiagara.com “Breaking the Barrier” Award.
Emergence Window
It is a rare sight to witness a butterfly leave its pupae, but at the Butterfly Conservatory One of nature’s most amazing transformations will happen right in front of you! With 180 meters of pathways winding through the glass-enclosed conservatory, you can watch a young butterfly dry out its beautiful wings before taking its first flight.
Education at Niagara Parks
The Butterfly Conservatory introduces visitors to the amazing world of butterflies and animals native to Ontario. You will learn about these butterflies’ from different continents are able to adapt to their new environment. The Butterfly Conservatory also emphasizes on how to protect your own local environment so that others can enjoy nature’s surroundings for years to come.
Wild Ontario
Immerse yourself in the beauty and biodiversity of Ontario. At the Butterfly Conservatory, you will see thousands of butterflies and live animal exhibits that include the barn owl, American kestrel, porcupine, skunk, wood turtle, yellow spotted salamander, black rat snake, gar pike, black widows to mention a few. In addition to that, you will see endangered animal species and learn what people are doing to protect these species and make the world a better place.
