A Touch of History
Golfers can enjoy working on their tees knowing that they are standing on historic ground. Laura Secord, a Canadian hero, trod what is now the Beechwood land to warn British soldiers about American opposition in 1813.
Three years later on June 24, 1816, the British ambushed American troops invading the now Beechwood Golf & Country Club land. There was three hours of fierce battle which the Americans remembered the battle as “Battle at the Beech Woods”.
In addition to its history, Beechwood had been farmland for over a century. One of the key focal points is the Old Barn, built in 1883. Artifacts associated with the barn are now being showcased, including its wool counter, wooden grain shovel, and corn planter.
