STEVE TROTTER
1985, 1995
(Survived)
On August 18, 1985, Steve Trotter, a 22-year-old part-time bartender from Barrington, Rhode Island, became the youngest person to survive a plunge from the Horseshoe Falls. He used a contraption made of 2 plastic pickle barrels surrounded by large rubber inner tubes that were covered by tarpaulin.
On June 18, 1995, he repeated the same stunt in a newly constructed barrel made of 2 pieces of hot water heater tanks welded together and coated with Kevlar. This time, he was accompanied by his girlfriend Lori Martin in the barrel.
Emergency Services risked their lives and pulled the barrel ashore when it got stuck in the rocks below the Horseshoe Falls. They became the second duo to go over the falls (DeBernardi and Petkovich were the first in 1989).
