What day of the week is best to see Niagara Falls?

A calendar showing 3 weekdays

” What day of the week is best to see Niagara Falls? ”  Today’s topic of concern, comes straight from ToNiagara’s ” inventory ” of the most frequently asked questions about Niagara Falls!

As one of the biggest Niagara Falls tour agencies, we keep an eye out for recurring Niagara Falls related questions. Whenever possible/necessary, these questions get addressed in a dedicated blog post, much like this one! The hope is for the right querents to find the right blog post; and for them to get the answers they seek…

Welcome to our blog! And here’s what we have to say, on today’s frequently asked question!

So… what day of the week is best to see Niagara Falls?

Can there be a somewhat logical and critical way of thinking about this? Will we be able to find a equally logical and suitable answer? Let’s find out!

A beautiful shot of the Bridal Veil Falls
A beautiful shot of the Bridal Veil Falls, on a sunny day!

A teacher once taught me, that the quickest way to arrive at the “best” possible answer at times, is to eliminate the obviously wrong ones first! She called this the ‘Process of Elimination’, or POE. To this day, I don’t know if it is an ‘official’ term… but it was super cool to learn at the time!

But, I digress…

The only reason I brought up that anecdote on POE , is because I want to apply it here! Before we dive into the topic of- ” What day of the week is best to see Niagara Falls? “… right away, I would like to propose that Saturdays and Sundays be already kicked out from the running!

I mean, duh!

Won’t that be simply logical?

And for good measure, let’s just go ahead and add the second half of Fridays out of the running too!

Why is Friday night, Saturday or Sunday, a bad answer?

I am using the same logic here which I have always used with my weekly grocery shopping!

Since always, I have absolutely detested going to the grocery store over the weekends! I can’t always avoid it, but whenever I can- I do! Over-crowded grocery aisles; long line-ups at the checkout; and occasionally, the products I want are all ‘out of stock’… I’m sure you know how it is!

The same goes for the super popular tourist destination of Niagara Falls!

People waiting in a line
Large crowds, can mean longer lines and longer wait times!

If I were to give you a super quick answer to the question of ” What day of the week is best to see Niagara Falls? “, I would simply ask you to avoid Friday evenings and the weekends as much as you can!

So which days then, are the best contenders?

Eliminating Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays by the very cool method of POE and logic; we are left with:

Mondays

Tuesdays

Wednesdays

and.. Thursdays!

But since we were impressively mindful enough, to include Friday evenings in the ‘must avoid’ list… let’s apply an equally sophisticated logic here and include Sunday evenings, to the contenders’ list!

Just as one might experience a slightly higher footfall at the mall, starting Friday evenings… there is an ever so slightly lower footfall, starting Sunday evenings.

Crowded Mall
A mall over the weekend, is just not a pleasant experience for people who don’t like crowds!

We all are aware of this phenomenon… We all know why this happens and so, it can be left out of this discussion.

Interesting fact: Apart from the unpleasant experiences that you might have as a shopper at an over crowded mall; do you know that it might affect the businesses as well? Apparently, customers are discouraged to shop when in crowds. They are less likely to line up at check outs and pay in an over-crowded setting! Most, are just browsing or window shopping! Interesting…isn’t it?

So all that to say- HERE is our newly revised and critically thought-out contenders list, for the best days of week to see Niagara Falls:

Sunday Eves/Nights

Mondays

Tuesdays

Wednesdays

and.. Thursdays!

Another Factor to consider…is the impact of weather!

Especially, the impact of Canadian weather, on the question of ” What day of the week is best to see Niagara Falls? ” and its possible answers!

Colourful Fall Leaves
FALL is my favourite out of the 4 Canadian Seasons! Which one is yours?

Canada’s 4 seasons of Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter are significantly different from one another. Temperature and weather conditions (rain vs snowfall vs winds) vary a lot from one season to the other.

And as you may already know… SUMMER is hands down the busiest season at Niagara Falls. More that 90% of tourism is witnessed during end of May to beginning of September in a year. Outside of this time frame- the tourist crowd is relatively less.

What day of the week is best too see Niagara Falls? Season wise, here’s what we would say..

Spring (March to May)- Relatively lesser crowds, up until Mid-May, from when it steadily keeps getting busier. So from March to Mid-May, any day would be ok. As the crowd is not yet at its seasonal peak; which comes next during the summers!

Summer (June to August) – Peak season for tourism at Niagara Falls. Doesn’t matter really, but yes try avoiding the weekends! There are more likely to be commuters from nearby places like the Greater Toronto Area, flocking for a weekend of fun, and adding to the crowdedness!

End of May, early June… is a popular time period for tourists wanting to avoid the peak season crowd!

Fall (September to November) – The first half of September is still busy, so just like the summer months, it doesn’t really matter what day you go. Just like the summer months- try and avoid the weekends! This is my personal favourite season to visit Niagara Falls for the all the colours and Fall themed activities!

One thing to note especially if you are interested in doing the HornBlower Niagara Falls cruise– this ride closes seasonally each year from approximately Mid November to End of March. If this is something that you want to cover in your visit make sure you contact us to find out if its running during the month/date/day, you are planning your visit!

Winter (December to February) – This is the off-season! Which means lesser tourists and lesser crowds! For people who don’t want to visit Niagara Falls when its crowded, these months would be the absolutely best picks! Any day of the week works! All attractions are open! Winter special activities have a different charm! Do check out the Winter Festival of Lights at Niagara Falls!
