Journey Behind the Falls

On the Canadian side of the Niagara River, the journey includes a viewing platform and a series of tunnels towards the foot of the Horseshoe Falls. Elevators connect the street level entrance to the tunnels and platform. This is an unguided tour.

The two tunnels go behind the waterfall for about 151 feet, allowing tourists to see water falling in front of the cave’s entrances. Visitors were allowed much closer to the portals’ edge earlier in the attraction’s existence, but increasing gorge erosion left these sections with insufficient rock on the sides. Thus new tunnels were dug further back. Barricades have been placed further back from the ridge at the end of the tunnels to guarantee visitor safety.

The observation platform offers snappers a complete picture of the famous landmark from a vantage point, gazing up at the falls on the right. Visitors are given waterproof raincoats before descending the deck, which is sprayed with water from the waterfall.
