Niagara Falls comes alive at night with a year-round brilliant illumination show. “Inspired by Nature,” a new nightly lighting display, will highlight colours and motions found in nature. It includes sunrise, sunset, rainbow and aurora borealis. These all are in addition to the Falls’ regular evening illumination. The presentation runs at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, and 11:30 p.m. It also depends on when the Falls Illumination begins, which is determined by dusk.

The Illumination Board of Niagara Falls recently announced an ambitious effort to introduce the new LED technology. it is in place of the existing Xenon lights. It improves the display’s brightness while also saving electricity.
Beginning at 9:30 PM each evening, the five-minute lighting show will be repeated three times every half-hour. Additional shows are at 10:30 PM, 11:30 PM, and 12:30 AM.
Please remember that the illumination schedule times are estimates and may vary depending on lighting conditions.

Only philanthropic and not-for-profit organizations are eligible for unique colour illuminations, which must be requested online. Please note that special colour illuminations get added regularly; we do our best to keep this list up to date.
The Niagara Falls Illumination Board is glad to present special illuminations in colours. it is chosen by registered charity associations to honour their causes. The submission requests to Niagara Parks with preferred date and colour as below.

What Is The Purpose of Illuminating At Niagra Fall?
More than 100 years ago, in 1860, the installation of 200 Bengel lights to illuminate the Falls at night. It is in honour of the visit by the Prince of Wales. The Falls have continued to look this way forever since then.
Until the early 1920s, the Falls illumination was for Royal visits and other events only.
Falls illumination became more prevalent after a group of Niagara Falls businesses fought for improvements to the Niagara Falls lights. They could gather sufficient money to buy and install 24 new arc lights.
What Is the History Behind Doing This?
Finally in 1925, paved the way for the start of the Niagara Falls Illumination Board!
The Board is for the operation and maintenance of these lights. Since then, this board has taken care of the Falls Illumination.
Over the years, by the end of 2016, the Niagara Falls night Illumination improved significantly with the installation of the new LED lighting system. It is twice brighter as the previous ones. These new lights consumed less power and displayed a broad spectrum of beautiful colours.
